BEDS 4 BABIES
Due to recent findings regarding infant deaths related to SIDS and unsafe sleeping practices (in particular bed sharing and unsafe sleeping environments), Infant CPR training and safe sleeping education became a priority. Beds 4 Babies classes began in September of 2007 with fourteen classes completed to date. A total of 106 beds have been distributed and 49 remain for upcoming recipients. Besides the 106 women who participated in the program and received beds, an additional 44 participants, whether they be fathers, grandparents, or other household members, have taken part in Beds 4 Babies and are trained in Infant CPR. All participants must meet eligibility requirements and be referred from Healthy Start or Healthy Families.
COMMUNITY ADVOCATES PROGRAM
The advocacy program locates pregnant women who are at high risk for late or no prenatal care through innovative outreach, educational seminars, church presentations, community center gatherings, and person to person dialogue. Once identified, they will connect each woman with the Prenatal Outreach Coordinator to facilitate entry into services as needed. If you are interested in becoming a Community Advocate, please contact Aubrey Jones at (772) 463-2888 or ajones@mchealthystart.org.
