Mission

Martin County Healthy Start Coalition is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) collaboration of community partners and agencies working to establish a system of care in Martin County. Our mission is to ensure that all women have access to prenatal care and that all infants and children, up to the age of three, have access to services that promote healthy growth and development.

History

1992: The Beginning

Martin County Healthy Start Coalition incorporated in June 1992 when Governor and First Lady Lawton Chiles challenged local communities to form coalitions to reduce Florida's alarmingly high infant mortality rate and officially opened its doors in February 1993.

1999: Prenatal Care for the Uninsured Program

The Prenatal Care Task Force was formed to fund and keep prenatal care, labor and delivery management, and post-partum care services for uninsured women in place.

2018: Nurse-Family Partnership

As part of a regional effort, Nurse Family Partnership was launched to provide evidence-based home visiting by registered nurses for first-time, low-income mothers, improving maternal health, strengthening early childhood development, and fostering family self-sufficiency.

2023: The Treasure Coast Maternity Center

In response to the community's need, the Treasure Coast Maternity Center was founded to expand access to comprehensive, patient-centered maternity care, bridging critical service gaps and supporting healthier pregnancies, safer births, and stronger families across the region.

2025: The MOM Mobile (Maternity on the Move)

In 2025, an innovative mobile to deliver prenatal care, called the MOM Mobile: Maternity on the Move, began serving the area, bringing prenatal care to expectant mothers in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Board of Directors

Jessica Tharp, CPRP – President
Jessica Tharp, CPRP – President

Jessica Tharp serves as the Assistant Division Manager for the City of Stuart Community Services Department, where she is responsible for community outreach for the city. Jessica is a Martin County native who has been in the recreation profession for over 20 years. She is a certified Parks and Recreation Professional. Jessica is a graduate of Florida International University and Martin County Leadership Class 32. She is also a mom of three teenagers, who are responsible for driving her passion to give back to her local community.

John Carrigan, Esq. – Vice-President
John Carrigan, Esq. – Vice-President

John P. Carrigan is a shareholder with the local law firm of Ross Earle Bonan & Ensor, P.A. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2009 and is Board Certified in Condominium and Planned Development Law. John is a graduate of Miami University and University Dayton School of Law. With a focus on serving the local community, he believes in advocating to ensure that all families have access to quality prenatal and postpartum resources within Martin County.

Thomas Schinske – Treasurer
Thomas Schinske – Treasurer

Thomas Schinske, a Commercial Loan Officer at Marine Bank & Trust Company, has over 20 years of banking experience in the Treasure Coast. He helps the local community achieve financial success by providing capital and financial services. A graduate of Omega Lending and Martin County Leadership Class 23, he has also earned various certifications from Indian River State College. Thomas has been actively involved with numerous nonprofits, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the American Cancer Society. A fortunate late-stage cancer survivor, he is passionate about giving back and excited to serve this organization.

Rosi Shepard - Secretary
Rosi Shepard - Secretary

Rosi is a commercial realtor with REMAX of Stuart Commercial Division, specializing in Commercial Real Estate. She danced for Martin County Healthy Start Coalition in 2017 and again in 2021 to support maternal and child health initiatives. Rosi has served as Past President of the Junior League of Martin County, demonstrating her commitment to community service and leadership. She currently holds a board position with the Florida CCIM East Coast District, engaging with commercial real estate professionals to advance industry education and networking opportunities in the region. Rosi is also an active member of the Martin County Realtors of the Treasure Coast on the Government Affairs Committee. Rosi is the proud mom of three boys.

Randy Pennington – Immediate-Past President

Randy Pennington is a commercial banker with CenterState Bank since 2004. He works with local businesses, professionals, and associations helping them achieve their financial goals. Randy is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and Martin County Leadership Class 26. Passionate about community service, Randy also volunteers with the American Cancer Society and United Way.

Genevieve George, CPA, CFP, CFE, CDFA - Board Member
Genevieve George, CPA, CFP, CFE, CDFA - Board Member

With over 20 years of experience, Gen is passionate about connecting with her clients in both a personal and trusting manner, diving into the details of their financial affairs as she helps both individuals and families plan, build, and protect their wealth. Gen prides herself on being a trusted resource for both her clients and her team, going above and beyond in all areas of her focus to both educate and empower others.

Gen has a deep passion for her work in the non-profit community in both Palm Beach and Martin County. She is thrilled to serve on the Board for Martin County Health Start Coalition and believes deeply in providing mothers and babies the opportunity for a healthy and safe pregnancy and post-partum experience.  When not working or volunteering, she can be found spending time with her husband and two boys, often searching for sharks teeth at the beach, supporting the boys in their various sports and activities, or painting.

 Mike Gonzalez - Board Member
 Mike Gonzalez - Board Member

Mike Gonzalez is the Director of Sales for Blue Stream Fiber, a local fiber optic internet provider serving communities throughout Florida. A proud Martin County resident, Mike and his wife Cybill are the loving parents of two amazing daughters, Brooklyn and Jordyn.
Mike’s connection to the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition spans over seven years, beginning as a “Dancing with the Martin Stars” celebrity in 2018 and continuing as the event’s energetic emcee from 2019 to 2023. He also serves as the current Vice President of the Palm City Chamber of Commerce and actively supports Keep Martin Beautiful through his adoption of Savannah Road in Jensen Beach—a street he called home for over 15 years.
 
Mike is honored to join the Coalition’s board and is deeply committed to helping ensure that every baby in Martin County receives the care and support they need for a healthy start in life.

Joanna Greene - Board Member
Joanna Greene - Board Member

Joanna Greene is the Human Services Supervisor for the Martin County Board of County Commissioners, overseeing case management for Adult Drug Court, Mental Health Court, juvenile diversion programs, and community initiatives. She holds a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Psychology degree from Georgia State College and University. An active leader, she serves on multiple boards, including the Florida Association of Drug Court Professionals and the Martin County PAL Board. Passionate about prevention and supporting families, she enjoys life with her husband, Mark, their two grown children, and a rescue Boston Terrier.

Samantha Suffich, Chief Executive Officer
Samantha Suffich, Chief Executive Officer

Samantha Suffich has been the CEO of the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition since 2017, aligning with her passion for public health and supporting women through early motherhood. A Martin County native, she holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Health Education and Behavior from the University of Florida. She is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), birth doula, childbirth educator, and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Her career includes roles in reproductive health education, worksite wellness, and childbirth support.

A mother of three, Samantha returned to Martin County after six years in Tampa to raise her family. She envisions a community where every baby is born healthy, every parent is supported, and breastfeeding is encouraged. Her goal is to empower families through education and compassionate prenatal care.

Aubrey Campbell, Chief Operating Officer
Aubrey Campbell, Chief Operating Officer

Aubrey Campbell, Chief Operating Officer, has been with the organization since 2010, driven by her passion for supporting mothers and babies. A mother of two, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University and a master’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University. She is a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern, working toward her LCSW certification.

Aubrey’s experience includes roles with the Early Learning Coalition and Treasure Coast Early Steps Program. The premature birth of her son Otis in 2018 deepened her dedication to the Coalition’s mission, especially after receiving crucial support during her postpartum depression.

She is grateful to contribute to an organization that provides essential services to families in her community. Through her work, she strives to ensure mothers and babies receive the care and resources they need to thrive.

Anastasia Anderson, Director of Clinical Services
Anastasia Anderson, Director of Clinical Services

Anastasia Anderson is a dedicated healthcare leader with over 15 years of experience in clinical care, public health, academia, and community health, with a strong focus on maternal health and bereavement care.

Her passion for this work began in Ghana, where she witnessed the challenges women and infants faced due to limited access to care and education. That early experience, along with the personal loss of her daughter Aria at five months' gestation, continues to fuel her commitment to improving outcomes for women and families.

Anastasia holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Community Health and Nursing from Seton Hall University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health and a certificate in Maternal and Infant Health from Florida International University.

Before joining Healthy Start in 2022, she gained extensive clinical experience in ICU, Maternity, NICU, and ER settings at Princeton Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey. After moving to Florida, she served as the Health Equity and Florida Healthy Babies Coordinator at the Martin County Health Department, partnering with organizations like Healthy Start, WIC, House of Hope, and Cleveland Clinic to support and educate women especially in underserved communities.

Anastasia also serves as Lead Program Coordinator for Madison’s Miracles, where she supports families navigating pregnancy and infant loss. 

Outside of her professional roles, Anastasia is married to Father Christian Anderson of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Stuart. Together, they are raising their two sons, Kwame and Kwaku. She enjoys traveling and spending time with them and her friends. 

Angela Aulisio, Director of Operations
Angela Aulisio, Director of Operations

Angela Aulisio joined the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition in September 2022 as the Manager of Strategic Impact and now serves as the Director of Operations. She brings a strong passion for health equity and is deeply committed to expanding access to care for all members of the community.

A Florida native, Angela moved to the Treasure Coast in 2014 from Tucson to be closer to family. Prior to joining Healthy Start, she spent five years at Cleveland Clinic as the Community Engagement Coordinator. There, she found her purpose in advocating for underserved populations and helping to create sustainable, community-centered change.

Angela holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida Southern College and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from the University of Central Florida.

Outside of work, Angela is an arts enthusiast and an avid traveler both in the states and abroad. She enjoys spending time in nature—especially paddle boarding and snorkeling along Florida’s coasts with her husband Chris. She’s a proud dog mom to two rescues, Mango and Paisley, who keep her active and inspired.

Angela is honored to be part of a mission-driven team that works tirelessly to ensure families in Martin County have the support they need to thrive.

Latisha Thomas McLeod, Director of Program Impact
Latisha Thomas McLeod, Director of Program Impact

Latisha Thomas McLeod, Director of Program Impact, joined Healthy Start in August 2023, combining her passion for education and maternal healthcare. With over 15 years of experience in data analysis, research, and program evaluation, she has worked in hospitals, schools, and healthcare organizations across New York, Maryland, and Florida. She holds a bachelor's degree in social science from Fordham University.

Less than two weeks after joining Healthy Start, Latisha experienced HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening pregnancy complication, leading to an emergency C-section and a 38-day hospitalization. Healthy Start provided vital support to her and her family during recovery, deepening her commitment to its mission.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Latisha relocated to the Treasure Coast in 2017. Married to her high school sweetheart since 2010, she has two daughters. She enjoys family movie nights, food indulgences, and reading when time allows. She is dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes.

Sheena Thomas, Director of Finance
Sheena Thomas, Director of Finance

Sheena Thomas, Director of Finance, holds a bachelor's degree in education from Bethune-Cookman University and an MBA in Finance from Strayer University. Currently, she is working toward becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

Sheena has a strong commitment to community service, partnering with nonprofit organizations through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. A lifelong musician, she has a deep appreciation for all genres of music. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her wife, Laquana Thomas, and their three bonus sons, as well as watching WNBA and NBA basketball.

At Healthy Start, Sheena’s goal is to provide financial guidance, recording, and reporting to support the organization’s mission of promoting healthy births and babies. She is dedicated to ensuring the financial stability needed to continue vital services for families in the community.

Roxanne Fyke, Office Manager
Roxanne Fyke, Office Manager

Roxi joined Martin County Healthy Start Coalition in 2022, alongside the acquired Madison’s Miracles program. Roxi brings a wealth of skills to her role as Office Manager with extensive experience in administrative support from her tenure at Dart Container Sales Corporation (Solo Cup).

As a certified postpartum and birth doula, Roxi's passion for supporting families shines through. Her experiences serving families in Martin County, New York State, and New Jersey have equipped her with a unique blend of skills and insights, which she seamlessly integrates into her role at Healthy Start. By combining her love for infants with her organizational talents and creativity, Roxi brings a compassionate and holistic approach to her work.

Having raised her own children in South Florida and now enjoying the joys of grandmotherhood, Roxi is intimately familiar with the rewards and challenges of parenting, further enriching her ability to connect with the families served by Healthy Start.

Outside of work, Roxi finds joy in creating memories with her family, relaxing at the beach, and exploring new places. Her gratitude for life and her deep love for her role as a mom and grandma are palpable, reflecting her positive outlook and zest for living.

Roxi is thrilled to be part of a team dedicated to ensuring all babies have a healthy start. Her passion, expertise, and commitment make her an invaluable asset to the coalition and the families it serves.

Fatherhood Team

Eric Seibenick, Senior Fatherhood Educator
Eric Seibenick, Senior Fatherhood Educator

Eric Seibenick, Senior Fatherhood Educator at the David Cardno Father Child & Resource Center, joined the Healthy Start team in February 2023. The youngest of 10 children, Eric brings over 20 years of experience mentoring both youth and adults. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and later moved to Hawaii, where he ran his own landscaping business and worked with disadvantaged youth through Hawaii Job Corps, the Marimed Foundation, and EPIC `Ohana Youth Circle Program. Eric holds a Master’s in Education from Chaminade University.

After relocating to Florida, Eric worked as a Child Protection Investigator for the Department of Children and Families and developed the Father & Child Connection program. In 2022, he joined the Fatherhood Advisory Board and returned to his passion for mentoring fathers.

Outside of work, Eric enjoys rescuing animals, gardening, remodeling, baking, and tinkering in his workshop. He is also devoted to his wife, Phyllis, and their two adult children.

Michael Landrau, Fatherhood Educator
Michael Landrau, Fatherhood Educator

Michael Landrau, Fatherhood Educator at Healthy Start, joined the team in March 2023. Growing up in a busy household with his single mother and three siblings, Michael understands the importance of an involved and reliable father figure.

Throughout his career, Michael has worked with youth and families in various roles, including in churches, schools, detention centers, DCF, workforce development, mental health, and through soccer programs. He is passionate about fostering healthy communities, believing that strong families are the foundation of well-being.

Born in Puerto Rico and relocating to Florida in 2003, Michael is married to his high school sweetheart, Leticia. In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, participating in church activities, engaging in sports, and occasionally traveling the world.

Sellian Cruz, Intake Specialist
Sellian Cruz, Intake Specialist

Sellian Cruz, Intake Specialist at Martin County Healthy Start Coalition, joined in June 2022 and is excited to serve families on the Treasure Coast. A South Florida native, Sellian is passionate about helping families access essential resources to build healthy lives. She believes strongly in the power of community and the importance of connection when raising children. As a mother herself, Sellian values family time and is deeply committed to the mission of Healthy Start, which aligns with her dedication to serving others. She is married with two children and enjoys spending time with her loved ones, along with her passions for faith, friends, and food. Sellian is thrilled to be part of an organization that impacts the community by ensuring mothers and babies have the opportunity for a healthy start.

Idalia Lazo, Intake Specialist
Idalia Lazo, Intake Specialist

Idalia joined Martin County Healthy Start Coalition after enrolling in the Nurse Family Partnership program during her first pregnancy. The education and support she received have been crucial for her healthy pregnancy and preparing for motherhood. With the help of a Healthy Start doula, she and her partner are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their son. Before joining Healthy Start, Idalia worked in the nonprofit sector for over 15 years, focusing on community programs for economic and professional development. She holds a Bachelor's in Cultural Anthropology and Mexican-American Studies from UCLA and a Master's in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. Born in a Zapotec community in Mexico and raised in Los Angeles, Idalia has learned to navigate diverse cultures. She is passionate about building healthy communities through equitable access to services and looks forward to connecting expecting and new mothers to resources in the Treasure Coast community.

Heidi Wilkerson, Home Visitation Program Manager
Heidi Wilkerson, Home Visitation Program Manager

Heidi Wilkerson, Home Visitation Program Manager at Healthy Start, brings a diverse background in corporate training, psychology, and nonprofit management. With a deep commitment to community health, her journey spans work in mental health case management, maternal-child health services, and training initiatives. As a certified Healthy Start trainer, she enhanced staff skills to deliver quality care in underserved communities. Passionate about addressing infant mortality and health inequities, they served on the Board for Black Infant Health Practice, advocating for minorities and equitable healthcare. After relocating to Port Saint Lucie, Heidi continued their mission as a social services counselor, collaborating with Healthy Start to expand their impact. Today, she works tirelessly to ensure healthy beginnings for mothers and babies, driven by a strong belief in social justice and empowering families to thrive. Her leadership is a testament to their dedication to holistic wellbeing and positive change.

Karina Aguirre, Healthy Start Home Visitor
Karina Aguirre, Healthy Start Home Visitor

Karina Aguirre, a Florida native from Jupiter, has always been passionate about childbirth. After extensive research, she discovered midwifery and fell in love with home birth. Karina pursued midwifery at the Heritage School of Midwifery and apprenticed with Abundant Life Birth Center on the Treasure Coast, where she served as a dedicated midwife providing holistic care to expectant mothers. Known for her gentle demeanor, Karina created a safe, nurturing environment for women to make informed decisions about their care. Now, as a home visitor, she’s excited to transition her role, offering personalized guidance and support to families. With a deep understanding of the physiological and emotional aspects of childbirth, Karina remains committed to compassionate care, supporting mothers throughout the sacred journey of bringing new life into the world. Her passion for empowering families continues to guide her work in the community.

Maria Valls, Healthy Start Home Visitor
Maria Valls, Healthy Start Home Visitor

Maria was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, and she is the youngest of three girls raised by a single mother who was a teacher and her role model. She graduated with a bachelor’s in fine arts from the University of Chile. After meeting her husband, who is from California and of Cuban descent, they married and had two children. In 2000, she moved to the USA, facing language, culture, and weather challenges. After enrolling in ESOL classes, she became a teacher’s aide before becoming pregnant with her daughter. Struggling with the lack of support, she dedicated herself to learning how to raise her child. She worked as a Family Support Worker for Healthy Families for nearly 14 years, eventually becoming a certified behavioral health case manager. With over 19 years of experience and a deep knowledge of community resources, she now proudly works with Healthy Start to support pregnant women and their children.

Claudia Worley, Healthy Start Home Visitor
Claudia Worley, Healthy Start Home Visitor

Claudia Worley, originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, is a highly skilled nurse and midwife with a passion for public health. She completed her nursing and midwifery education in Sierra Leone and later pursued a public health degree in the UK. During her time there, she worked as a Health Visitor, assisting mothers from prenatal through the first five years of their child's life. After immigrating to Stuart, Florida, in 2001, Claudia became a Lactation Consultant at the Department of Health in Martin County and has worked closely with Healthy Start and Cleveland Clinic to promote health and wellness, especially breastfeeding. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked in various roles including home health care, counseling, and as a health educator. Claudia is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Public Health at the University of West Florida. She enjoys reading, exercising, and doing Zumba in her free time.

Nurse-Family Partnership

Angelica Borges, Nurse Home Visitor
Angelica Borges, Nurse Home Visitor

Angie Borges is a registered nurse with extensive experience in home health, hospital settings, and maternal care. Since 2021, she has worked with low-income, high-risk families through Nurse Family Partnership, supporting new mothers-to-be and guiding parents through the challenges of infancy and toddlerhood. Angie focuses on promoting healthy child growth and development through assessments and educational support. She is passionate about serving vulnerable populations, including teen pregnancies and low-income immigrant families, helping them achieve healthy outcomes. Angie finds great purpose in making a difference during such a critical time in a family’s life, working to build trust and create lasting impact one family at a time. Her work as a nurse is driven by her dedication to helping others navigate the unknowns of new parenthood, providing compassionate care to those who need it most.

Telindalee Beck-King, Nurse Home Visitor
Telindalee Beck-King, Nurse Home Visitor

Telindalee’s journey in maternal health began in 2001, inspired by a nurse-midwife who delivered her three children. Passionate about educating families, she became a Childbirth Educator and later a postpartum doula. After nursing school in Houston, Texas, she worked as a birth assistant at a community birthing center. Moving to the Treasure Coast, Telindalee explored various nursing roles, including in the ER and Med-Surg, before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2018, she joined Nurse-Family Partnership through Martin County Healthy Start Coalition as a Nurse Home Visitor. Telindalee finds fulfillment in supporting families from pregnancy to the child’s second birthday, walking alongside them through the early stages of parenthood. Outside of work, she enjoys balancing family life, travel, nature, and finding stillness. She feels deeply grateful to serve the community in the beautiful Treasure Coast of Florida.

Doula

Margo Keane, Doula Program Manager
Margo Keane, Doula Program Manager

Margo Keane, Doula Program Manager, is a Treasure Coast native and Lincoln Park Academy alumna dedicated to serving her community. Passionate about supporting pregnant women, she spent four years assisting midwives in Tallahassee, Gainesville, and the Treasure Coast before earning her degree from The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. As a Florida Licensed Midwife, she provided care across three counties, guiding families through childbirth.

Now, as Doula Program Manager and Lead Doula at Martin County Healthy Start Coalition, Margo brings nearly a decade of birth experience. She believes every pregnant person deserves a doula and is committed to building a strong, community-based team to support local families.

When not working, Margo enjoys time with her family and pets in her Fort Pierce home. A self-proclaimed nerd, she loves board games and Harry Potter and is always eager to chat about her favorite fandoms!

MOM Mobile: Maternity on the Move Team

Claudia Adrian, CNM, PMHNP-BC
Claudia Adrian, CNM, PMHNP-BC

Claudia’s career in healthcare spans more than 15 years. She earned her undergraduate degree from Barry University and went on to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier University, specializing in Midwifery and women’s health care. Over time, Claudia found herself increasingly integrating mental wellness into her approach to patient care. Recognizing the vital connection between physical and mental health, she pursued additional training, earning a Post-Master’s Certificate in Mental Health and becoming a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Beyond her clinical work, Claudia is deeply committed to supporting organizations that improve quality of life for families in need. She proudly supports Kiva.org, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, Midwives for Haiti, and Doctors Without Borders. Looking ahead, she aspires to establish a nonprofit organization that expands access to mental health services for minorities and underserved populations.

In her free time, Claudia enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, and spending time with her children and their cat.

Lucinda Muscadin, CNM, APRN
Lucinda Muscadin, CNM, APRN

Lucinda is a dedicated and compassionate Certified Nurse Midwife who is passionate about supporting women through every stage of life. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and went on to receive her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, where she completed comprehensive training in midwifery.

For more than a decade, Lucinda has had the privilege of serving families throughout Palm Beach and Broward Counties, providing high-quality, personalized care. Her approach centers on offering thoughtful, holistic support to mothers and babies—from prenatal visits and labor education to postpartum recovery. She takes pride in listening, supporting, and guiding each woman so she feels confident and informed every step of the way.

Helping families thrive is not just Lucinda’s profession—it’s her calling.

Yajaira Lolly Webster, Medical Assistant
Yajaira Lolly Webster, Medical Assistant

Yajaira is a dedicated medical assistant with more than 20 years of experience in community health. Since joining the MOM Mobile: Maternity on the Move team in March 2025, she has brought compassion, expertise, and a deep sense of purpose to her work supporting pregnant women and teens during one of the most meaningful times in their lives.

Born and raised in Indiantown, Martin County, Yajaira is a proud mother of three—a role that gives her unique insight and empathy for the families she serves. Fully bilingual in Spanish and English, she values the ability to connect with patients in the language that makes them feel most comfortable and understood.

Before joining MOM Mobile, Yajaira spent much of her career at the Florida Department of Health, where she gained extensive experience in community-based healthcare. She is currently pursuing a degree in Human Services at Indian River State College, reflecting her belief that learning never stops.

Being part of an organization that provides essential care to mothers and babies is deeply meaningful to Yajaira. She is proud to contribute to a mission that uplifts families and strengthens the community she has always called home.

What is Healthy Start?

Healthy Start is a statewide non-profit program that provides pregnant women and infants with the resources, support and help they need to have positive health outcomes. The program is voluntary and available to all Florida residents at no cost to you.

What is the Healthy Start Screening?

The Healthy Start Screen is a simple one-page questionnaire that is completed by you with the help of your doctor, midwife or facility staff member. Every prenatal care provider and hospital/birthing facility in the state of Florida is required to offer a Healthy Start Screen to all pregnant women and new mothers.

What if I don't need services? Should I still complete a Healthy Start Screen?

Even if you don't need help or want to use Healthy Start services, answering the questions on the screen assists in obtaining the information and funding necessary to improve the health care system for ALL mothers and babies in Florida.

How do I qualify?

The program is voluntary and available to all Florida residents. To determine if you qualify to receive services, you must initial “YES” next to all three consent questions on the screen and sign it. If you initial no next to any of the consent questions, you will not know if you or your baby is at risk or be able to receive any Healthy Start services.

How does Healthy Start make a difference?

The goal of Healthy Start is to reduce infant deaths, reduce the number of low birthweight and premature babies and improve health and developmental outcomes. Healthy Start services can help you have a healthy baby. Ask for a free screening today to see if you qualify.
